Progressive rock titans KARNIVOOL won their first ARIA Award last week, picking up ‘Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album’ for their third record ‘Asymmetry’.

The band were also nominated for ‘Best Live Act’ (which went to pop singer Guy Sebastian). Ian Kenny’s other band Birds Of Tokyo were nominated for 6 ARIAs on the night, but didn’t win any this time, with several awards going to electronic producer Flume and psych-rock band Tame Impala.

The ARIA nod comes after a massive year for Karnivool, which included debuting at #1 on the ARIA Chart with ‘Asymmetry’, which is now certified Gold; a sell-out national tour in August and sold-out shows across the UK & Europe.

The band will celebrate with a massive tour of Australia in January (dates here)

Whilst it wasn’t aired on the TV broadcast, you can watch Drew and Kenny’s acceptance speech at the link below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Euu54jT9v70
